Our fifth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event, the International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence, will be held at Shoreline Park on August 3, 2019, from 9am-Noon. We hope that you will plan to walk and support our community.
Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women and their families are joining the award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to men’s sexualized violence against women.
We’ve organized this fund-raising and awareness event in Sandusky to benefit Safe Harbour. 2015 was the first year and the walk was a huge success. The event has been wonderfully supported the last three years by the community, in so many ways; with donations, walkers and volunteers.
The walk allows participants to raise awareness in our community and offer hope in the knowledge that our neighbors are committed to taking a stand against violence. The money raised from our walk allows us to help women and children in our community as they recover. Safe Harbour offers support groups, dating violence programs in the schools, back to school programs for children as well as holiday events. Our fundraising efforts allow us to help with things like, bus tickets, transportation, clothing for job interviews and so much more.
History of Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®
Frank Baird created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® in 2001. What started out as a small group of men daring to totter around a park has grown to become a world-wide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs.
In 2007, Frank formed Venture Humanity, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. Venture Humanity, Inc. develops peace, violence prevention and community projects. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a Venture Humanity, Inc. project. www.walkamileinhershoes.org
