About Us
Safe Harbour will provide each person with alternatives to family violence in an atmosphere of safety, encouragement, and support.
Safe Harbour will be recognized as a community resource for individuals seeking relief from domestic violence by providing shelter, counseling, advocacy, support groups, and community awareness education.
SERVICES
Safe Harbour does not charge for any services offered to survivors. We are funded by State and Federal grants and at the local level. We are 100% confidential.
In 2024, our programs reached 1,863 individuals.
CRISIS LINE
During 2024 we answered 752 crisis calls. Our crisis line answers calls 24/7. We speak directly to survivors. Our trained staff are ready to help offer safety planning, support as well as information to local resources.
SHELTER
Last year we provided shelter for 8 families. We provide emergency shelter for Erie, Huron and Ottawa Counties. Our shelter is a safe and confidential place to go for survivors and their children. Families stay together in our comfortable family bedrooms. Our shelter is a house and is comfortable and safe. We provide everything a survivor needs for a 30-day stay. Survivors can arrive with just the clothes they are wearing and nothing else. Healing begins almost immediately once a survivor is safe.
COUNSELING
We provide short term crisis intervention counseling, education and case management. Our Social Worker will work to help the survivor get the services they need. Survivors create their own case plan with the Social Worker. They do all the work themselves; we just guide them in the right direction.
OUTREACH COUNSELING
Not everyone comes into the shelter and we can see nonresidential survivors at an offsite location. Clients can meet with our Social Worker and learn about safety planning, resources in the community and find out what their options are.
LEGAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM
This program provides a Social Worker who advocates for survivors in Erie County, to help them file for a CPO and accompany them to court, to support them, to be there for them.
SUPPORT GROUPS
In 2024 we had 133 participants attend our support group. Our group is for survivors who have been or are now in an abusive relationship and looking to make changes. This support group is instrumental in the healing process. Healing must occor and be complete before new relationships can begin. This group has survivors at different stages of their healing process. Survivors help survivors navigate the process to living a life of freedom and indpendence. We help teach about personal boundaries, how to set and maintain them. We discuss the importance of self-esteem and self-care. We help guide you through that healing process. Our group is confidential It is a safe and comfortable place to get support from others who understand the dynamics of domestic abuse.
FIRST RESPONSE PROGRAM
In 2024 we had 386 first response calls and connected 58 calls with the SANE program. We cooperate with local law enforcement agencies in Erie County so that we can contact survivors at the time of the incident. We can call them, meet at the hospital or police station. We can inform them of their options. The sooner we can do that the better.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
We go into the community to speak and get the word out about what we can do for a survivor. Everyone needs to know that domestic violence is not ok. They can seek help, they can get out, they can be free, they are entitled to live a life free of violence.
